hey again, just wondering if you guys had some good ideas for baby foods. he's not on purayed anymore, he does eat normal table food, I just get a little stumped for new and different things sometimes, i mean, how many weenies, grapes, bananas, and gerber puffs can one kiddo eat? not saying that's all he has, but it seems like it, lol.
so anyone with food ideas, i'd love to here them.
honestly, i just give savannah whatever we are having. well unless it's like steak or something super spicey. last night she ate meat loaf, stuffing, and peas with us. tonight she had peas and chicken and rice casserole. we had corn, but i don't want her having it yet.
other ideas. hmm for lunch she gets things like cheese sandwiches. sometimes turkey, cheese, and fruit. she loves cottage cheese, yogurt, breads, fruits and most veggies.
usually i just take what we are having, cut it into small enough pieces for her, throw it on the high chair tray, give her a spoon, and let her have at it.
i still feed her the yogurt and such though.
chicken nuggets are another she likes.
sorry this post is all weirdly written. i'm tired and not thinking well at the moment.
yeah, i give him all thos things also, lol, but hahaha, we're mexican so alot of the stuff we eat is spicy and stuff so i always have a tough time substituting for him. because he always wants what we have, regardless if it's spicy or not. lol. i feel guilty when we eat something he can't have, but i always try to equal his meal out. the one thing I havent tried yet is a sandwich, that may be on todays list.
i don't understand this spicy thing. my kids loved it and I never knew better. try it and if he doesn't react badly it is ok. my son at one loved kung pao chicken and shrimp with old bay seasoning. for those of us not from maryland that is a very spicy mixture people around here steam shrimp and crabs in.
i don't get the whole bought baby food thing. as i mentioned somewhere on this board my kids only ate home made stuff.
have you tried rice or fruit cocktail in pear juice. a big fave for mine.
my grand daughter was just introduced to smoothies. now grandma knows what she's getting the family for christmas. she loved them, and mommy's friend doesn't put a lot of junk in them.
I bought apple jacks yesterday and our boys, 3 and 1, both love 'em. We just gave Kevin a casadilla with cheese and he liked it, even if he is not a good swallower yet.
Goldfish is another favorite around here, you can get them baked so they are actually not at all bad for the kids, heck, I end up eating half the box myself actually.
Old Bay Seasoning is yummie stuff, nothing like Maryland crab soup.
You can also may be try a little pasta with vodka sauce. Despite its name it is not alcoholic, I suppose they use vodka for taste or something, but it is an excellent tomato sauce, tiny tiny bit spicy but the flavor is fantastic, our kids lve it too.
And there is always peanut butter, lol.
cheers

Hmmm! How about a couple of my favourites, both good for you apart from the cheese, lol. First up, mum used to improvise and make these things which were a cross between a pizza and a beef/hamburger with potatoes, carrots, onions, red peppers and she'd put this improvised pizza thing in the oven with cheese on top so it melted all over the veg and disguised them a bit, lol. Cool if you're not overkeen on veg. The other thing she used to do when I was a toddler, was boil in the bag cod, mash, spinach and peas and either butter sauce or parsley sauce. I used to eat this one in front of lunchtime BBC Grandstand, lol. That's one of my strongest memories from when I was that age.
Jen.
yeah, we go threw a tun of boxes of gold fish a month, he could live on them if i'd let him. and he really loves frute from the can, and fresh frute, he's not much of a meat eater though, he'll eat fish sticks just fine but that's about it. some times he'll take a chicken nuggit or two but he prefers veggies and frutes.
some times I will feed him a pudding or something as a snack but every morning he gets yoagart, it's something that is healthy for him and we both like. I don't mind letting him have food with flavor, it's the hot food i don't let him have, i chop up hot peppers and put it in many things
well give him a bit of pepper. he will enjoy it and not get freaked out like so many of us who try them later in life. waffles are another good thing for them to eat. when i was a kid my favorite lunch was waffles with jelly on them. yum!!!! you can make them nowadays with whole wheat flower if you don't want the white flour in them too.
wildebrew you can make a breakfast quesadilla if you want a change up sometime. just scramble an egg, put some veggies and chese or meat in it, stick some cheese on it stick on a tortilla fold it over and cook as you want. it is so good. i bring them to work all the time and my kids loved and still do enjoy them.
I ain't no baby but that surely sounds good to me.
Any way to scramble eggs on the Foremann I wonder, not that I am totally adverse to using a frying pan but the Foremann is just such an awesome device I wonder if anyone's tried scrambling eggs on it.
I havent tryed eggs on a formin before, but my husband and I have experamented with hash browns, pizza pockits and beritos, lol. needless to say, none of them turned out ok. but, that may have just been us.
oh you can make burritos and pockets on the foreman. the keys are to grease the tortilla or wrap before you put them on there. also don't over fill. pancakes are great on it too but a little big and weird.
make great hashbrowns by cutting up your taters and pouring italian dressing over them. stick on there for at least 10 minutes depending on the thickness and crispiness.
i have never scrambled an egg on the foreman, but i don't know why it wouldn't work. i'll have to try it.
another thing you can do on the foreman, i swear they didn't pay me, is if you have the g5 with the waffle grids make waffle grilled cheese sandwiches. just butter the outside of the bread well put on whatever kind of cheese you want, and stick on the waffle grids. bake for at least 3 minutes.you can put ham or sliced turkey in the sammy too. you must use whole grain bread. otherwise it tears up too much. i can't believe i bought one of those for 5 buckeroos at the waffle house and it is so easy to do at home. tastes better too.
So, wait, for the hashbrowns you just cut up the potatoes raw and then pour Italian dressing over them and drop them on the Foremann? I'll have to try that.
As a bachellor I lived off Foremann buritos, though usually they were more like wraps, in that I just cooked the chicken or pork or beef on the foremann and threw cucumber, peppers, tomatoes, the hottest salsa I could find and, for special occasions, sour cream and rice, on there.
I love food and experimenting, but when you live by yourself it's no fun, but this was quick, simple and pretty healthy.
Oh, this is turning into a Foremann appreciation thread, but one more thing I just saw a recipe for s pineapple on the Foremann. Cut up fresh pineapple, mix lemon juice, brown sugar and synnamon together in a bowl, code the pineapple and throw on the Foremann for 5 minutes. I had something very much like this at a Brazillian restaurant a couple of weeks ago and it was absolutely delicious and, heck, it seems fairly healthy too.
You can google the exact recipe and I shall report on my success or failure after the weekend,.
yep just juliene the taters and pour italian dressing over them.
yum on the pineapple. it sounds like muy all time favorite food which is ppineapple upside down cake.
lol this is starting to sound like a formin fest, maybe someone should starta topic. but their some kick ass ideas though.
Well, here is an interesting question. What do babies do who live in countries that eat a lot of spicy foods as a rule? Don't those babies eat those foods? I've always wondered about that. I know that when I was a todler, I ate very spice foods, even straight havinera peppers, and I liked them. I loved them and never had a negative reaction to them. So, I suppose parents in those countries do what my parents did--let their children eat them? I'm interested to know.
Some baby food ideas that I have in mind are finger foods, such as chicken nuggets, tatter tots, and french fries. He can also eat mac and cheese, mash potatoes, spaghetti, O's and meatballs--I ate those a lot when i was a child, and you could get those TV dinners for children. Also you can try vegetables cut into small pieces. I hope that this helps out.
in my opinion the thought that there are children friendly foods and adult friendly foods is a western industiralized cultural development. in most of the rest of the world the parents don't have the luxury of buying special kid friendly products. so everybody eats the same thing. it was so here until the manufacturers got in to the act and convinced us that small sized people have special dietary needs. I was talking to my neighbor who is el salvadorean about this. she said her kids eat the same stuff as mom and dad do and there is no problem. same with my iranian neighbor. this has caused a lot of discussion around here as I live in the league of nations. my daughter is yelling that the hatian family said the same thing.
he does like spicy stuff, so i guess that settles that. lol. I decided to just throw cossion to the wind and let him dig in. he loved it! thanks.
